Camp Counselor
Counselors must love and embrace not only the camp environment but also the camp philosophy that campers come first, we work as a team, and summer is a time to play, learn, and grow. The primary responsibility of a Camp Counselor is to manage a group of 15-20 campers each day as they participate in various camp activities and events. Counselors are responsible for campers’ physical and emotional safety and must ensure that campers feel supported and welcomed at all times.
Lead Counselors must love and embrace not only the camp environment but also the camp philosophy that campers come first, we work as a team, and summer is a time to play, learn, and grow. Lead Counselors guide children through their daily activity schedule while encouraging and empowering them to participate in activities such as sports, music, art, swimming, and more. Lead counselors oversee the administrative aspects of group management including rosters, child specific plans, morning and afternoon meetings, lost and found, and child specific documentation. Lead counselors also take on an active role in mentoring and coaching the co-staff within their groups. While lead counselors do not directly supervise their co-staff, they are responsible for resolving disputes, implementing clear goals and effective protocols for the camper group, and supporting the development of their co-staff. The person in this position should feel confident in their abilities to manage camper behavior, navigate interpersonal conflicts with other staff, and assertively direct their group throughout the entirety of the camp day.
This role at Camp Three Rivers is a multi-faceted, fast-paced position. The Counselor for the Trekkers program must love and embrace not only the camp environment but also the camp philosophy that campers come first, we work as a team, and summer is a time to play, learn, and grow. The Trekkers Program is Camp Three Rivers’ junior high school camp, serving students entering grades 7th and 8th. Each week, campers attend approximately 3-4 field trips around the area (typically within a 1 hour radius of Concord,MA).
